Individual Counselling
Individual counselling is one of the most widely used modalities for many issues and problems. Issues that can be addressed in this mode include stress management, anger management, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, substance abuse/addiction separation/divorce and family of origin.
I prefer an eclectic approach which simply means using different therapeutic approaches and theories in different combinations, based on the needs of the client and what would be most effective.
Some of the therapeutic methods and types of counselling that I use include cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief solution focussed therapy, narrative therapy and psychodynamic approaches. All my work is trauma informed.
My approach is client centred and goal oriented. This means that the client determines what they need to talk about and when for each and every session. The client also determines how many sessions they will participate in and the scheduling of those sessions.
Each sessions lasts 50 minutes in duration. Some clients require weekly sessions, some come every two weeks or every three weeks, in some instances.
A continuous evaluation and feedback process is used to ensure that the client is satisfied with the counselling sessions.
